Creating Funnel Charts in Apache Superset

A funnel chart is a type of data visualization used to show how a quantity changes as it moves through a series of stages, typically decreasing at each step.

Think of it like a real funnel: wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. Each section represents a stage in a process, and the width of each section corresponds to the value at that stage.

Simple Explanation

·      A funnel chart answers questions like:

·      How many items started the process?

·      How many made it to the next stage?

·      Where are we losing the most?

Example

Imagine a sales pipeline:

·      1,000 website visitors

·      300 added items to cart

·      120 started checkout

·      60 completed purchase

A funnel chart would visually show this drop-off, making it immediately clear where the biggest decrease happens.

Key Characteristics

·      Sequential stages (ordered steps)

·      Decreasing values (usually, but not always)

·      Width represents magnitude

·      Highlights drop-offs and conversion rates

When to Use It

Funnel charts are ideal for:

·      Sales pipelines

·      Marketing conversion analysis

·      User journey tracking

·      Recruitment processes

·      Any step-by-step filtering or reduction process

When NOT to Use It

If your data doesn’t follow a clear sequence (like random categories), a funnel chart can be misleading. In those cases, a bar chart is usually better.

Let’s build Funnel chart using below dataset.
