Install and setup MySQL on MAC

Step 1: Install mysql

brew install mysql

$brew install mysql

MySQL is configured to only allow connections from localhost by default

To connect run:
    mysql -uroot

To have launchd start mysql now and restart at login:
  brew services start mysql
Or, if you don't want/need a background service you can just run:
  mysql.server start

  Step 4: You can execute ‘show databases;’ command to list all the databases.

mysql> show databases;

+--------------------+
| information_schema |
| mysql              |
| performance_schema |

How to change user password in mysql?

Step 1: Login to mysql.

mysql -uroot

 

Step 2: Execute below statement.

ALTER USER root@localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'tiger';

 

Step 3: Exit from mysql prompt

 

Step 4: Try to login to MySQL using below command.

mysql -u root -p

 

Now mysql prompts for the password, enter password as tiger and proceed.

$ mysql -u root -p
Enter password: 
Welcome to the MySQL monitor.  Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 13
Server version: 8.0.21 Homebrew
