Java: ArangoDB: Create a document

ArangoCollection interface provides 'insertDocument' method to insert a document into the collection.

<T> DocumentCreateEntity<T> insertDocument(T value) throws ArangoDBException;
<T> DocumentCreateEntity<T> insertDocument(T value, DocumentCreateOptions options) throws ArangoDBException;

Creates a new document from the given document. If the given document do not have _key attribute, then ArangoDB generates one unique document key. You can provides additional options like waitForSync, overwrite, returnNew, returnOld etc., using DocumentCreateOptions.

Step 1: Define an instance of BaseDocument.

BaseDocument empAddress = new BaseDocument();
empAddress.addAttribute("city", "Bangalore");
empAddress.addAttribute("country", "India");

BaseDocument empDocument = new BaseDocument();
// myObject.setKey("myKey");
empDocument.addAttribute("firstName", "Krishna");
empDocument.addAttribute("lastName", "Gurram");
empDocument.addAttribute("hobbies", Arrays.asList("trekking", "playing cricket"));
empDocument.addAttribute("address", empAddress);

Step 2: Create a document.

DocumentCreateEntity<BaseDocument> docEntity = collection.insertDocument(empDocument);
